Major, Lindsey & Africa Places Jill Marchant as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at Hallmark Cards

HANOVER, MD, January 25, 2018 — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced the placement of Jill Marchant as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary at Hallmark Cards, Inc. in its Kansas City, Mo., headquarters. The search was led by Joanna Herman, managing director in MLA’s In-House Practice Group in San Diego, and Bob Graff, partner in MLA’s In-House Practice Group in Atlanta.

In her new role, Jill will be responsible for providing legal and business advice to Hallmark and its portfolio of businesses on a wide array of issues, including financing, contracts, litigation, acquisitions, mergers and other general corporate legal matters.

“Jill brings to her role at Hallmark nearly three decades of legal, litigation and business experience across multiple industries, for both public and private companies,” said Bob Graff. “Jill’s business acumen, adept leadership, strong communication skills and innate ability to connect with people will allow her to maximize business results while minimizing legal risk,” added Joanna Herman.

Prior to joining Hallmark, Jill served as senior vice president and general counsel on the executive committee of Farm Credit Mid-America in Louisville, Ky., impacting its $22 billion financial services cooperative. She was also previously general counsel for Texas Roadhouse, advising executives and the board of directors related to the company’s more than 400 restaurants, while leading a legal team of 20 attorneys, paralegals, specialists and administrative professionals. In addition, she has held leadership positions in the legal departments at Dine Equity, Applebee’s and Honeywell. Jill replaces Brian Gardner, who MLA also placed at Hallmark in 2004; Brian is retiring from the company and will depart March 31.
