Lyles Carr Honored by Leadership Greater Washington

(June 1, 2021) TMG Senior Vice President Lyles Carr will be honored by Leadership Greater Washington as the Leader of the Years at the 2021 Celebration of Leaders on October 12.

A member of the inaugural 1987 class, Carr is being recognized for his 35 years of service to Leadership Greater Washington and the broader Washington regional community. He has held nearly every leadership role in the organization, including as President, and most recently co-chaired the 2020 Celebration of Leadership honoring Artis Hampshire-Cowan.

Carr believes strongly in civic engagement. He was on the founding boards of ACT for Alexandria, the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation, Leadership Arlington, and Workforce Organizations for Regional Collaboration, and was on the Steering Committee that created the Greater DC Cares/Washington Business Journal Business Philanthropy Summit. He has served on numerous additional nonprofit boards and advisory councils as diverse as the Junior League of Washington, the United Negro College Fund for the Washington area, Jubilee Jumpstart, and the Heart of America Foundation.

Also active in the regional business community, Carr has served on the boards of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, the Economic Club of Washington, and the Federal City Council, and is active on committees for the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce.

In a May 13th “Viewpoint” article, Alex Orfinger, Washington Business Journal Market President and Publisher, wrote “Lyles shows up just in time to raise money for a nonprofit at a crucial stage, to help someone land a job, to fill a board position, write a recommendation. Listening to dozens of stories of how Lyles stepped in to help, without fanfare, one thing became abundantly clear: his selfless devotion to his community and to service.”
