Josh Withers, founder and managing director of True Search, provides answers and explores how today’s successful companies attract growth-driven talent in a candidate market, how to keep high performers, and how to help current and next generation leaders reach their full potential.

RECRUITING NUANCES BETWEEN PE & VC ENVIRONMENTS

Lisa Peacock-Edwards (Moderator) Managing Partner – Wilton & Bain

Private equity and venture capital firms share many common disciplines and approaches. Both sectors are highly-charged and their portfolio investments are often measured by returns in the millions or often even in the billions of dollars. To this end, identifying the right executive leadership talent inside the portfolios is often times the primary focus of talent partners as they seek the most highly-skilled professionals who can operate within a pressure-packed environment that drives the highest levels of business execution. But while PE and VC share many commonalities, the nuances of portfolio company talent evaluation, acquisition, and retention can be quite different. In this panel discussion, six leading talent professionals at some of the most prominent private investment firms discuss the unique aspects of recruiting top talent within their portfolios, and how their firms’ investment profiles and strategies dramatically impact how they each uniquely approach this search for key executive leadership within their companies.

The Profit vs People Paradox: Measuring & Maximizing the Economic Value of Talent

Alan Guarino Vice Chairman – Korn Ferry Jean-Marc Laouchez President – Korn Ferry Institute

Real science can be applied when looking at the ways properly led talent can drive value creation in companies. Korn Ferry Institute’s research is groundbreaking in this area and in this informative keynote address we will show how it can give you a competitive advantage. As we all know, work-life balance rarely exists. Work has often become the dominant activity in the lives of every employee. That demands more soulful leadership in order to maximize their engagement and contribution to the company. If three employees are 70% engaged in their work, then those three people are basically giving you the work of only TWO people who are FULLY engaged. Think about that math knowing that your staff is a significant part of your operating expenses. Is this happening in your portfolio? Alan Guarino, vice chairman of Korn Ferry, and Jean-Marc Laouchez, president of the Korn Ferry Institute, will discuss how to quantify and optimize the value of people embedded in deal valuation and eventual outcomes. They will be joined by senior partners Joe Healey and Chris Cantarella, contributors to this dynamic research-based session.

Maximizing Partnerships With Search Firms

Ryan Greene (Moderator) Operating Partner – Francisco Partners

Private equity and venture capital firms are in a bidding war for top talent. For them, leadership is the new bottom line – the critical lever to maximize and sustain growth in often highly time-sensitive environments. But there is a global talent shortage in the C-suite, and that is putting search firms in the crosshairs of sourcing, evaluating and recruiting the best leadership available at any given time. In this far ranging panel discussion, leaders from five top search firms dedicated to the PE and VC sectors examine how they successfully collaborate with clients. These experts then look to the future and explore how these partnerships will likely change.
