Kristen Shepherd Named New Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg

NEWBURYPORT, MA, November 6, 2016 — Koya Leadership Partners congratulates the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg on naming Kristen Shepherd, an innovative leader in the art world who has expanded community engagement at museums in Los Angeles and New York, as its new Director. We were delighted to be involved in this successful search.

The Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg (MFA), founded in 1965, is a leading cultural force in the Tampa Bay Area. With its encyclopedic collection covering almost 5,000 years of civilization, the MFA houses thousands of objects extending from antiquity to present and hosts unique traveling exhibitions and events in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg.

Ms. Shepherd brings to her new role the perspective of an art historian combined with strong business acumen. She has served as Associate Vice President, Audience Strategy & Services, for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art since 2013. She led her staff and volunteers to create engagement opportunities for the diverse local audience, increasing revenue from visitor attendance and membership by 19 percent during her tenure.

Ms. Shepherd was unanimously approved by the museum’s Board of Trustees after a national search, and she will join the museum December 15, succeeding former Director Dr. Kent Lydecker, who retired in March. She is the sixth director in the MFA’s history and its first female director.

The selection of Kristen Shepherd was made after a thorough national search, overseen by Koya Leadership Partners, a national executive search firm dedicated to the nonprofit sector.
