Kevin Chase Executive Search Completes Executive Director Search for Time Out Youth

July 12, 2021 — Kevin Chase Executive Search Group is proud to announce the successful completion of its search for the Executive Director of Time Out Youth(“TOY”) in Charlotte, NC. TOY offers support, advocacy, and opportunities for personal development and social interaction to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) youth ages 11-20.

Ms. Sarah Mikhail has been named as TOY’s permanent Executive Director and will begin her new duties on August 9th. Sarah was selected from an exceptionally talented and diverse group of LGBTQ+ candidates who share the identities and lived experience of the youth TOY serves.

Sarah joins TOY from A Way Home America where she has been the National Director for Grand Challenge, a national initiative to end youth homelessness. Immediately prior, she was a Senior Program Director at The LGBTQ Community Center of New York where she oversaw a portfolio of community support programs that included Youth & Families, Mental Health, and Transgender/Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) Health, in addition to maintaining a personal caseload of family counseling clients. During her time at The NY Center, Sarah also created the LGBTQ Institute for Family Therapists, a training program created specifically to train clinicians on working with families of LGBTQ+ youth.

Sarah is a first-generation American – the daughter of Egyptian immigrants – and grew up in northern Virginia. She began her career working with youth in New York City’sfoster care system. She holds BSW and MSW degrees and is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW).

“Sarah becomes the first queer woman of color to lead TOY in its 30-year history. Her intersectional lens and approach to working with LGBTQ+ youth will serve theorganization exceptionally well,” said Kevin Chase, Managing Director. “It is so important for queer young people to see themselves reflected in their leaders, and Sarah holds all of her identities powerfully and gracefully.”

For the past year, TOY has been ably led with passion, intention, and commitment byInterim Executive Director O’Neale Atkinson (he/him) who will continue on with theorganization as Deputy Director.

Kevin Chase Executive Search Group was honored to partner with a dedicated and fully engaged Search Committee comprised of Board, staff, community partners, and youth, on this search.
