JDG completes search for NOAA’s Director, GOES-R Program

ROCKVILLE, MD, May 29, 2018 – JDG and NOAA are pleased to announce the selection of Pam Sullivan as the Director for the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite R-Series (GOES-R) Program.  In this role, Pam will not only be responsible for leading the completion of the GOES-R program, including the commissioning of the GOES-17 satellite and the assembly, test and launch of the GOES-T and GOES-U satellites and execution of the GOES-R program overall, she will also bring decades of spaceflight hardware and mission design experience to NESDIS.

For the past several years Pam has managed the GOES-R Flight Project as a NASA senior executive.  In this role, she directed the development of the Spacecraft, Instruments, and Launch Services for the four satellites in the GOES-R series, including the successful launch, commissioning, and operational transition for GOES-16 and GOES-17.

She has broad space flight development experience that includes serving as the Deputy Project Manager for the Joint Polar Satellite System Project, Program Manager for the National Polar Operational Environmental Satellite System Visible/Infrared Imager/Sounder System, and Manager of the James Webb Space Telescope Integrated Science Instrument Module, the Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera.

Prior to her NASA career, she served as an officer in the US Air Force, training as a space shuttle flight controller and supporting military space experiments using the shuttle.  She is a four time recipient of the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in astronautical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
