July 2019 – Bridge Partners is delighted to announce the appointment of Javier Alberto Soto as President and CEO for The Denver Foundation. The Denver Foundation is one of the largest and most experienced community foundations in the country and is guided by a mission to inspire people and mobilize resources to strengthen the community.
Javier will join The Denver Foundation in October 2019, after stepping down from The Miami Foundation at the end of September. As The Denver Foundation’s President and CEO, he will lead the organization in pursuit of its mission, including executive leadership of the Foundation, its grantmaking, investments and initiatives, stewardship of its current and future donors, and ensuring its financial health and sustainability. “Javier’s leadership skills, experience, and vision align perfectly with the values of The Denver Foundation and our work across Metro Denver,” comments Betsy Mangone, a long-time Trustee and who Co-Chaired the search committee.
At The Miami Foundation, Javier serves as President and CEO, and has led the organization through a period of significant growth in assets, ambitions, and aspirations. Javier positioned the Foundation at the center of civic and philanthropic activity in the Greater Miami area. Prior to joining The Miami Foundation, Javier served as Senior VP and General Counsel at Grayling, a multi-disciplinary public affairs firm. He spent part of his career in the public sector, beginning as a litigator in the Miami-Dade County Attorney’s Office and later serving as Chief of Staff to County Mayor Alex Penelas. Javier also worked as a litigation associate at Holland & Knight.
“I am honored to join The Denver Foundation, one of the leading community foundations in the country. Greater Miami and Metro Denver are two of the fastest growing large cities in America. Denver has reached an exciting inflection point in terms of population growth, demographic change, and economic development. I’m looking forward to working with The Denver Foundation team and the entire community to build on the Foundation’s long record of driving local solutions and bringing people with divergent perspectives together around common goals.”
The son of Cuban immigrants, Javier was born in Madrid and moved as a young child to Miami. Javier graduated from Florida State University with a B.A. in History and Political Science and earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He is also a Henry Crown Fellow, a leadership program of the Aspen Institute.
