About

In the wake of unprecedented times, organizations are witnessing a new evolution in how people choose and engage in work. Employers are feeling the impact of the “Great Resignation” as it relates to employee turnover and the lack of progression in diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) efforts is a big reason why. In fact, according to Bain & Company, 50% of all employees say they would consider switching jobs to work for a company with a more built-out DE&I strategy or greater pay equity. This presents continued opportunities for DE&I and human resources practitioners to drive the case for DE&I in business operations, particularly when attracting and retaining great talent.

To examine how companies are leveraging their DE&I efforts, Hunt Scanlon Media is convening hundreds diversity, equity & inclusion leaders, business transformation experts, chief talent officers, heads of HR, and executive recruiters at The Harvard Club of New York on October 26, 2022 to explore how DE&I is changing the talent landscape.

EMBRACING THE FULL VALUE OF DIVERSITY TO CREATE AN INCLUSIVE WORK CULTURE

Karthik Venkataraman Partner – Bain & Company

Across industries, geographies and demographics, most workers have one thing in common: they don’t feel included at work. Many companies today pursue diversity by itself as a priceless asset, failing to recognize they cannot embrace the full value of diversity without fostering a truly inclusive work culture for everyone. New research from Bain & Company shows inclusive workplaces have a greater ability to innovate and challenge the status quo as well as increased employee satisfaction and retention. Yet, organizations across industries prove to be struggling to effectively foster a true feeling of belonging. In this session, Bain partner Karthik Venkataraman offers insights on how organizations can build a focused strategy for inclusion to help their employees thrive.

Creating a Culture Built on DE&I to Attract & Retain Talent

Moderator: Laurie Ryan Managing Partner – Prais + Barnette

Diversity, equity, and inclusion must be integral to every organization’s culture. First and foremost, improving DE&I is the right thing to do, but it’s also essential for organizations that want to compete in today’s talent marketplace. Three quarters of job seekers and employees say a diverse workforce is important when evaluating companies and job offers. Nearly a third wouldn’t apply if there were a lack of diversity, and the percentage is even higher for Black (41%) and LGBTQIA+ (41%) people. Everyone wants DE&I in the workplace, but many organizations still have much work to do. The following panel comprised of leading executive search consultants and senior-level corporate diversity professionals discuss and debate why a culture of diversity impacts their recruitment efforts and how this successful effort helps to keep this talent in place.

Gender Diversity – Key to Success Every Leader in Business Should Know

Paige C. Scott Senior Partner and Leader of the Asset Management Practice – Kingsley Gate Partners

Organizations with more gender-inclusive leadership perform significantly better than those that are not. It is more than demonstrated that diverse work environments are innovative, collaborative, committed and transparent. With diversity, equity, and inclusion at the top of the agenda for leaders today, the time is now for more women to make their move into the C-suite and boardroom. Building more gender-diverse organizations is a big challenge for most companies. There is no single recipe, but there are tools that can help speed up the process. Paige Scott, a senior partner at Kingsley Gate Partners, will share the survey results that highlight the management skills, motivators and culture within which women leaders thrive. She will also spotlight the stories of these leading women executives, including valuable advice for all aspiring leaders.

C-Level DE&I Hiring: Lack of Diversity at the Top

Christine Greybe President, Leadership Consulting – DHR Global

In 1972 when Katharine Graham became the first non-white male to lead a Fortune 500 company there was hope that a new wave of diverse talent would populate the most senior ranks of corporate America. While progress has been made in the last 50 years, diversity in the C-Suite is still significantly lagging. According to Korn Ferry, big corporations often recruit from colleges with marquee names—where money and connections help gain entry—and from within companies already on the Fortune 500 list. Even though they tend to look in all the same places for talent, according to Gartner, the No. 1 reason HR managers gave for the lack of diversity in executive roles was “not having enough diverse leadership talent in the pipeline.” In this panel discussion leading corporate diversity executives and executive search consultants will discuss the reasons for this continued void at the senior-most levels and how this log-jam can be broken in the future.

Staying the Course to Move from Intention to Impact

Singleton Beato Global Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer – McCann Worldgroup

The majority of companies, and those who lead them, have the best intentions when it comes to improving DE&I. In fact, since 2020 the number of public commitments made by CEOs in this regard have been astonishing. The public demand for greater equity and inclusion in every sector provided significant tailwinds for Diversity leaders across the board. Now, 2 years later, concerns abound that many of those very loud declarations to prioritize DE&I have fallen short of delivering sustainable change or moving the equity and inclusion agenda from intent to impact. And, as business leaders face the challenges of a “post-covid” world and a deeply disrupted economy, the energy needed to drive the DE&I agenda forward can start to wane. Singleton Beato will discuss these issues and how she and her team at McCann Worldgroup are tackling them to ensure the DE&I strategy and mission continues to influence and impact enterprise-wide change.
