Academic Career & Executive Search (ACES) Places Inaugural Dean of Arts and Sciences at SUNY Geneseo

(April 15, 2025, WEST HARTFORD, CT) Following a national search, Academic Career & Executive Search (ACES), a leading higher education focused executive search firm, is pleased to announce the successful placement of Dr. Agya Boakye-Boaten, securing the role as Inaugural Dean of Arts and Sciences at SUNY Geneseo.

Agya Boakye-Boaten, PhD (pronounced “Ay-jah Bwachee Bwahten”), assumes this new role on July 17. He is a previous U.S. Fulbright Scholar and Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow with 20 years of interdisciplinary experience in higher education, community development, and international education. Dr. Boakye-Boaten is currently the Dean of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at the University of North Carolina Asheville (UNCA). In this role, he leads 16 departments and interdisciplinary programs in support of faculty, staff, and student success, campus-wide initiatives, and community engagement. Boakye-Boaten earned his bachelor’s degree in social work/administration and political science from the University of Ghana–Legon and his master’s degrees in international affairs (African studies) and political science (international relations), as well as his doctoral degree in educational studies (cultural studies) from Ohio University. SUNY Geneseo is one of the original campuses of the SUNY system, established in 1948. It has evolved into a nationally recognized, selective public liberal arts college with undergraduate and graduate programs of study.
