Academic Career & Executive Search (ACES) Places Founding Faculty of Mechatronics at California State University, Monterey Bay

(July 2023, WEST HARTFORD, CT) Following a national search, Academic Career & Executive Search (ACES), a leading higher education focused executive search firm, announced the successful placement of Luis Edgar Cabrales Arriaga securing the role as the Founding Faculty of Mechatronics at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB).

Luis Edgar Cabrales Arriaga joins CSUMB from California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) where he most recently served as a Professor of Engineering and the Chair of the Department of Physics and Engineering. Dr. Cabrales has been a key figure in developing the engineering department at CSUB, exemplified in the growth of the Engineering Sciences BS program from 6 students to more than 200 during his time as a pivotal leader in the department. Additionally, his experience as an engineer at M&G Polymers (one of the largest polyester producers in the world) and as a research associate at the Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute (FBRI) at Texas Tech University gave him crucial experience in the engineering field. His research interests are in the areas of functionalization of polymeric surfaces to impart antibacterial, hydrophobic, UV protection, photocatalytic, and oleophobic properties to textile materials. He holds an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech University (TTU) and a Ph.D. in Plant and Soil Science with a specialization in Fibers and Biopolymers from TTU.
