Mike Carey

Mr. Carey has spent over 30 years in executive leadership, consulting and executive search roles. He has worked in professional services, financial services, healthcare and technology with extensive international experience in Europe and Asia. Mike has worked in public and private industry and has had significant exposure to Boards of Directors and Board Committees. During that time, he has recruited many C-level executives and many other executives across disciplines.

Most recently, Mike was the CHRO for SPS Commerce, a high-growth public, technology company. He built out the HR function, implemented HR systems, built a high touch/high-volume recruiting team, designed and implemented new compensation programs, redesigned benefits and built out leadership development and talent management programs. He held previous CHRO roles at Datacard (now Entrust-Datacard), a global leader in high-tech financial and identity solutions, and PDI (now Korn Ferry), a global professional services firm focused on leadership identification and development. Each CHRO role required strong business acumen, executive presence, HR knowledge and expertise and strong team building and team management capabilities. Much of his early career was spent at American Express Financial Advisors (now Ameriprise) in a variety of roles including a highly competitive management development program.

As an independent consultant, Mr. Carey designed and implemented organization development and talent management solutions for a variety of non-profit and for-profit companies. In his retained executive search role, he recruited executives in a wide range of industries and senior positions. In both his consulting and search roles, Mike was known for his ability to establish strong client relationships and for his ability to assess talent for skills and abilities but also for culture and values fit. Across every internal and external role, diversity and inclusion has been a common theme and a personal mission.

Mike graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in accounting. He completed his MBA at the University of Minnesota, Carlson School. He lives with his wife of 31 years in downtown Minneapolis.
