Toomas Truumees


Toomas Truumees possesses more than 20 years of experience as a corporate strategist and trusted advisor to boards and senior management teams. He is a recognized expert in the areas of strategic leadership, decision-making, and competitive positioning. A Partner at JM Search, Toomas co-leads the firm’s Healthcare practice.

Toomas joined JM Search from Heidrick & Struggles, where he was a partner and head of the Strategy Acceleration practice. He came to Heidrick through the acquisition of Decision Strategies International (DSI), a strategy and leadership development advisory, where Toomas was the Senior Managing Partner. At DSI, he also served as Chief Talent Officer, a member of the Board, and leader of the firm’s Healthcare practice.

He seeks to accelerate the performance of his clients by linking C-suite talent decisions to long-term strategic direction. Toomas has worked with hundreds of clients over his career, including Children’s Hospital Association, CHOP, Coke, Children’s Miracle Network, Federal Reserve Bank, General Electric, Genentech, GlaxoSmithKline, Knight Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, Mayo Clinic, Medtronic, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Pfizer, Sanofi, Sylvester Cancer Center and Shell Oil Company.

Toomas found his passion for helping clients succeed at a young age in the competitive world of athletics. He learned that in sports, and in life, by always keeping the end goal in mind, one could develop and execute a winning plan. “Never mistake activity for achievement” is a philosophy that he strives to bring to each client engagement.

He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences on competitive anticipation and strategic leadership. Toomas has authored numerous articles on strategic management including: The Future of Cancer Care in 2020, How to Enhance Leadership by Sharpening Your Competitive Edge, From Strategy to Execution in Pediatrics, and Why you need to Play War-games.

Toomas graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts in history from the University of Pennsylvania and a concentration in strategic management from the Wharton School. He serves on the board of Minds Matter Philadelphia, a non-profit mentoring program for high achieving, low-income high school students. Outside of work, Toomas enjoys playing tennis, golf and shooting sporting clays. He lives in Villanova, Pennsylvania with his fiancé Ashley and their loyal English Springer Spaniel Rafa.
