Managing Director

Sue May is a Managing Director at Storbeck Search, part of Diversified Search Group. May has successfully led searches for a wide range of positions within higher education, ranging from academic affairs to student affairs, and from enrollment to technology. She has a particular affinity for working with faculty committees. Her approach is collaborative, and she works creatively and flexibly with her clients to design the best possible strategy for their needs.

Before entering the executive search sector, May worked for higher education strategy consulting firm Art & Science Group, LLC. There, she managed year-long client engagements with more than 25 institutions across the country, ranging from small women’s colleges to large research universities. She regularly presented to faculty bodies and governing boards and provided confidential counsel to college and university leadership.

An expert on alternative careers for graduate students, May authored So What Are You Going to Do with That?: Finding Careers Outside Academia, published by Farrar, Strauss & Giroux in 2001; the book was later published in revised editions by University of Chicago Press in 2007 and 2014.

She is also the founder of Love & Cornbread, an outreach project in Baltimore city that seeks to address hunger and improve public health by forging individual and community connections.
