Jeffery “Jeff” L. Smith

Jeff is the Global Co-leader of the Energy Practice, based in Houston. He is a Senior Member of the Financial Officer, Financial Services and Board & CEO Practice Groups. With more than 35 years of energy banking and executive search experience, he brings a unique perspective to his search assignments.

Jeff has conducted numerous senior-level searches for a broad range of energy clients including E&P, midstream pipelines, oilfield services, utilities and commodity trading sectors. In addition to industry assignments, he has specialized in bringing technical energy expertise to investment banking, private equity, hedge funds and other commodity-focused clients.

Jeff has completed searches for CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CIOs, Treasurers, Controllers and Business Developers, as well as other senior positions. Recently Jeff has spent time working with private equity groups seeking executives for their portfolio company investments. Prior to joining the search industry, Jeff spent 15 years in corporate/investment banking at JP Morgan Chase and BoA Securities.

Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Hobart College and a Master of Business Administration from Babson. He and his wife, Laura Leigh, have two daughters. When not at the office Jeff likes to work on his golf game and coach boys’ lacrosse. He is a former board member of the Houston Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse.
