David Nagy serves as Managing Partner, Asia Pacific Industrial Practice, based in the firm’s Shanghai office. Mr. Nagy joined DHR in 2008. He established and led the firm’s Industrial Practice in Asia until December 2011 when he was appointed as Managing Partner, China.
For more than 4 years he oversaw the firm’s offices in Shanghai and Beijing. In early 2016, he was named to his current position with the mandate to expand relationships with clients in the industrial sector. Mr. Nagy has resided in Mainland China continuously since 1995, and has more than 17 years of experience in executive search.
Prior to joining DHR International, Mr. Nagy was with Russell Reynolds Associates at their office in Shanghai. He was one of that firm’s first consultants to be based in Mainland China, and served stints as their sole China Industrial/Natural Resources recruiter and later, China Automotive Practice Leader. Mr. Nagy has worked extensively with clients across sectors to recruit China country heads, Asia Pacific regional heads, and functional leaders at both the Greater China and Asia Pacific levels.
He has advised clients across a broad range of sectors, including Automotive, Supply Chain, Chemicals and Process Industries, Basic Industries, Capital and Electrical Equipment, and Building and Construction Materials. Earlier, Mr. Nagy co-founded a Shanghai-based boutique executive search firm and worked with international and China-based organizations to build their China leadership teams. He began his career in recruitment with a leading Asia-based regional executive search firm.
Before entering the executive search profession, Mr. Nagy worked with Mundet, a privately-held Toronto-based manufacturer of specialty papers business at their joint-venture in Longyou, Zhejiang. As Manager of Administration, he undertook wide-ranging responsibilities in finance, business development, MIS and sales and marketing.
Mr. Nagy was a member of the Board of Directors of the Canada China Business Council (previously the Canadian Business Forum in Shanghai) for six years, and served one year as President. Deeply engaged with the international business community in Greater China, he has been an invited speaker at events organized by the Canada China Business Council, the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, and the British Chamber of Commerce in Beijing.
He has also given presentations to several MBA programs in Shanghai. Mr. Nagy received his B.A. in East Asian studies from McGill University in Montreal, and completed a graduate management course in Asia Pacific Management at Capilano College in Vancouver. He speaks, reads and writes Mandarin Chinese, and is fluent in French and English.
