Alonzo DeCarlo

Dr. Alonzo DeCarlo joined Academic Search as a senior consultant in 2021. He has been an academician for more than 20 years. He has served as a tenured faculty member, International scholar, division chair, associate provost of academic affairs, vice-chancellor of academic affairs, and director of graduate and professional programs. With a background as a Fulbright scholar, textbook author, and researcher, Dr. DeCarlo brings a wealth of academic affairs experience to our team. He is a system thinker who is broadly educated and specifically skilled in coaching educational leaders in providing long-term strategic direction for many institutions. In addition, as a senior visionary leader, he has amassed extensive experience in accreditation processes with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) as a university accreditation liaison officer and peer reviewer. Dr. DeCarlo was a recipient of multimillion-dollar grants from the National Science Foundation. He has written several accredited graduate and undergraduate programs. His leadership in academe spans the range of associate through doctoral degree-granting and minority institutions of higher learning. His granular level expertise in academic affairs is a welcomed addition to our team.

Dr. DeCarlo held an executive community leadership position as a prominent expert and state administrator on mental health and juvenile justice for Cook County, Illinois. In collaboration with university stakeholders and non-profit organizations, he facilitated policy and best practice implementation around risk and protective factors for trauma-exposed children.

DeCarlo holds a Doctorate in Developmental Psychology and M.A. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Toledo. He received his master’s in Clinical Social Work with an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Wayne State University. His research is centered on mental health policy and social justice issues. His most recent work has a publication release date of Fall of 2022 with Oxford University Press.
