Los Angeles Growth

Los Angeles has one of the most diversified economies in America, with established industry clusters ranging from aerospace, entertainment and fashion to biomedical services, consumer products, finance and technology. The LA area has a gross metropolitan product of $866 billion, making it the third largest economic metropolitan center in the world, after Tokyo and New York. The economy of the region is driven by international trade, entertainment (television, motion pictures, video games, music recording, and production), aerospace, technology, petroleum, fashion, apparel and tourism. Other significant industries include finance, telecommunications, law, healthcare and transportation.

So it is that the LA area has been a popular spot for expansion and growth in recent months for recruiters. The British search firm Carmichael Fisher chose Los Angeles for its first office in the U.S. The new location is headed by Justin Hobday and supported locally by two regional directors, new hire Kimberley Rice and Ciara Kelleher, who transferred from the firm’s EMEA headquarters in London.

In February, U.K.-headquartered executive search firm La Fosse Associates also opened its first U.S. office, in Santa Monica, the hub of Los Angeles’ thriving tech and digital sector. It has already engaged in a number of assignments for organizations ranging from early stage start-ups to global concerns. Tom Vaughan, who heads the new location, will be responsible for establishing and expanding the firm’s west coast presence.

“There is a thriving tech and digital scene evolving in LA and businesses are enjoying unprecedented levels of investment,” said Mr. Vaughan. “This presents a huge opportunity for La Fosse and we aim to capitalize on this movement by helping businesses grow and providing exceptional talent.”

JM Search, an American search firm, expanded its footprint across Los Angeles as well with the additions of Kevin Kernan as a partner and Jerry Fong as a vice president. Mr. Kernan focuses on recruiting CEOs, C-level executives and direct reports to the C-suite for SaaS, cybersecurity and analytics companies as a member of the firm’s technology practice. He previously spent six years as a managing director at ChampionScott Partners. With a combination of management consulting and executive search experience, Mr. Fong has completed more than 100 searches for private equity-backed companies, select Fortune 1000s and other growth-oriented businesses. He joined the firm following nearly six years with Morgan Samuels.
