CHARLOTTE, NC, April 26, 2017 — The McAulay Smith Firm successfully recruited Scott Thornton as the Director of Information Technology for Tropical Foods (Tropical). Tropical is a manufacturer and distributor of premium snack mixes, raw and freshly roasted nuts and seeds, dried fruit, and hundreds of bulk and packaged candies, spices, grains and specialty foods. It has an extensive line of retail branded products, including Grabeez®, ReCharge® Buffalo Nuts® and Dip & Devour. The company prides itself on creating and distributing the highest quality products that stay current with consumer trends and customer demand. It was founded in 1977 with an original product line of 100 items, which has grown to include more than 3,000 today. Tropical also has a retail division with four stores including the Healthy Home Market and Farm 2 Family Foods brands in Charlotte (Plaza Midwood), Matthews, (Galleria), Davidson and Lenoir.

Tropical is headquartered in Charlotte, NC with additional distribution centers in Orlando, Atlanta, Memphis, Washington DC, Dallas and Reno. Production facilities in Charlotte and Orlando roast nuts and seeds daily and blend over 60 bulk snack mixes. These facilities also package and re-box many of its items to meet its customers’ varied needs.

Scott comes from Nutra-Pharma Manufacturing Corp, a manufacturer of health and wellness products including vitamins, supplements, sports nutrition and organic health and grocery products where he served as the Director of Information Technology. He has over 23 years of IT experience and has worked across a broad spectrum of business control systems and analyses initiatives such as project management, supply chain & logistics, change control administration, systems implementation, call center, database conversions and inventory control systems, etc. He holds a degree in Applied Computer Science as well as training and knowledge in ASP, HTML, Java and SQL 2000, among other programs.
