Russell Reynolds Associates Taps Rival Spencer Stuart for Education Practice Leader

Charles Falcone new Russell Reynolds Associates’ U.S. education practice leader

August 14, 2017 – Former Spencer Stuart recruiter Charles Falcone is taking over as the new leader of Russell Reynolds Associates’ U.S. education practice, which includes higher learning, academic medicine and digital education. He also becomes a member of the firm’s healthcare services team.

Based in Chicago, Mr. Falcone specializes in executive search and succession planning for senior leadership across the field, including presidents, provosts, deans and other senior leaders. Within healthcare services, he serves the entire C-suite and also offers a specialty in physician executives.

Most recently, Mr. Falcone served as partner and managing director for the Chicago office of Spencer Stuart. Prior to that, he was medical director of operating rooms and surgical services at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and a faculty member at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. He also served as clinical director for the anesthesiology department. Mr. Falcone, who is a board-certified anesthesiologist, began his career on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Additions and Subtractions at RRA

In July, Russell Reynolds named Mary-Caroline Tillman as co-leader of its global financial services practice. Based in New York, she works closely with chairpersons, chief executive officers and senior leadership teams in the financial services industry. Ms. Tillman co-leads the practice with Amanda Foster, who is based in London.

In June, Russell Reynolds named Peter L. O’Brien as the region head for Asia Pacific. He is responsible for managing the firm’s business across the region and driving growth in key markets, including China, India, Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia, as well as Australia and New Zealand.

In April, the firm added Marc de Leyritz as managing director of its global board and CEO practice. Based in Paris, Mr. de Leyritz works with multinational clients across a range of C-suite and board-related areas, including CEO search and succession, leadership development and organizational transformation.

In March, the firm added Lloyd Semple and Dan Hawksworth to its industrial, and energy & natural resources practices. Mr. Semple advises and recruits C-suite level executives for clients across a breadth of industrial segments. Mr. Hawksworth advises clients within both the firm’s industrial and energy & natural resources practices.

But Russell Reynolds Associates has also lost some top recruiters in recent months. Caldwell Partners recently added Matt Comyns as managing partner of its cybersecurity search practice. Mr. Comyns co-led Russell Reynolds’ global cybersecurity practice, where he served for nearly six years.

In January, U.K.-headquartered executive search firm The Up Group named Agnes Greaves as managing director. Ms. Greaves previously served as executive director at Russell Reynolds, where she worked on the firm’s global consumer team focusing on consumer goods and the digital sector.

And rival Heidrick & Struggles added Steven Greenberg as a partner in charge of the firm’s financial services practice. Based in Tokyo, he will additionally lead the firm’s efforts in the insurance sector, covering Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Mr. Greenberg joined Heidrick from Russell Reynolds, where he served as a consultant.
