Olmec Search Names Managing Partner in Singapore

November 1, 2015 – Executive recruiting firm Olmec Search has named Steven Pang as a managing partner in Singapore. He will now be responsible for the company’s overall strategy and increasing offerings to both existing and new clients. In addition, he will oversee marketing, operations, learning and development, reporting to Gary Smith, Olmec’s CEO.

“Steven brings valuable know-how to Olmec and will be an asset to the management team. His knowledge and track record of growing successful recruitment businesses and Asia Pacific regional recruitment experience will be invaluable as we look to continue to grow our business globally and define more innovative solutions for our clients,” said Mr. Smith.

Mr. Pang joins Olmec Search from Kelly Services, where he was in charge of the company’s executive search and selection business unit in Singapore. He led a team of recruiters specializing in various industry verticals (healthcare/life science, industrial, engineering, oil & gas, consumer goods, etc.) and across functional horizontals (accounting & finance, human resources, sales & marketing, and others).

Previously, he was managing director with recruitment business accelerator Reccelerate and before that was regional director, Asia, at Aquent, a Boston-based executive search firm specializing in the marketing, communications & creative fields. He also spent time with Hudson and TMP Worldwide.

“I look forward to expanding Olmec’s business globally and leveraging Olmec’s reputation in delivering human capital solutions as we look to help clients exploit the changes we are seeing in the market,” said Mr. Pang.

The hiring sentiment in Singapore for the remainder of the year is cautious and reflective of a ‘wait and see’ approach, with a net 32.1 percent of employers expecting to increase headcount, a slight decrease of 4.9 percentage points from the first half of 2015, according to The Hudson Report: Employment Trends.

Other reports on the hiring environment in Asia-Pacific have been decidedly more optimistic. According to the 2015 KPMG ‘CEO Outlook Study,’ 66 percent of CEOs in Asia Pacific are more confident than they were last year about growth and the global economy in the next three years. In assessing their own company’s growth prospects, 68 percent of Asia Pacific CEOs indicated they are more confident than a year ago.

Olmec Search is a specialist executive search and human capital consulting business headquartered in Singapore with operations and capabilities across Asia Pacific, the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East. Parent company Olmec has its core business capabilities in executive search but has also built a complementary consulting practice to provide clients with end-to-end human capital solutions.
