Miles Partnership Announces Expansion

September 14, 2017 – The Miles Partnership, a London-based recruitment firm, has appointed two new partners. Julia Roberts joins the firm’s public sector practice and Steve Rutherford becomes part of the executive interim practice. Noel O’Curraoin, meanwhile, was named a principal for the firm’s financial services team.

“The Miles Partnership is committed to being the most innovative and dynamic executive search and human capital firm in the U.K.,” said CEO Chris Stainton. “We are committed to building the very best team of individuals and these recent appointments demonstrate that commitment. Julia, Steve and Noel are outstanding individuals and each bring a wealth of experience and commitment to excellence.”

Despite the uncertainty that the U.K.’s pending departure from the European Union has created for the business community, Mr. Stainton and his firm remain determined to keep moving forward, with the latest appointments being just one example.

Marching On

“We believe that the outlook is fundamentally positive,” Mr. Stainton said in a recent interview with Hunt Scanlon Media. “A slow-down in certain parts of the financial services sector in the U.K. is inevitable, but aside from this, the Miles Partnership expects it to be business as usual unless Britain enters a rapid or deep recession.”

“There should be a host of opportunities working with both U.K. and European clients as they develop their organizational models to meet post-Brexit challenges. In particular, we can see a need for British companies to develop the strength and depth of their European management teams. As an international search firm with proven experience in placing European candidates at home and abroad, we believe we are well-suited to rise to this challenge.”

Julia Roberts has worked for more than 20 years in the higher education and not-for-profit sectors, first as a development professional and most recently in executive search, said the firm. Previously, Ms. Roberts was director of the education practice at Veredus. Prior to that, she held leading fundraising roles at UCL, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Cranfield School of Management and King’s College London.

A Solid Background

Nine years ago, Ms. Roberts moved into executive recruitment. She leads on a range of senior academic and professional services leadership assignments, ranging from vice-chancellor to registrars for Russell Group and other research intensive and post-92 universities. Ms. Roberts also has substantial experience helping organizations re-shape their senior leadership teams.

Steve Rutherford has 25 years of experience in market leading recruitment, interim management and executive search firms, according to Miles Partnership. He has built relationships on both a cross-sector and cross-functional basis. At the Miles Partnership, Mr. Rutherford’s focus is on growth and development of the firm’s interim management offering. He has a particular interest in fostering relationships with clients and interim managers in financial and professional services. Previously, Mr. Rutherford was managing partner of Interim Partners and was on the U.K. Board of PageGroup. He is an honors and masters graduate of the University of Essex.

A U.K. Leader

Prior to the Miles Partnership, Mr. O’Curraoin established and grew the retail financial services practice at Sheffield Haworth. He also lived for 11 years in Australia, where he worked as a director at Johnson, the premier local leadership advisory firm before its acquisition by CTPartners.
