Macdonald Lewis Opens Doors to Serve Life Sciences Sector

February 29, 2016 – Macdonald Lewis Associates Limited has been launched in the U.K. to provide executive search services to the life sciences industry. The firm is led by life sciences talent management veteran Susan Macdonald.

With 27 years’ experience in life sciences, Ms. MacDonald started out as a nursing graduate from Glasgow where she transitioned to the pharmaceutical industry. There, she spent 17 years working for ethical and generic global life sciences companies. This was followed by 10 years with global life sciences recruiting provider RSA Executive Search, moving between Europe and Asia and setting up offices in China where she led RSA’s Asian business from Singapore. She ultimately returned to Europe to manage relationships with key global clients there.

“Executive recruitment in life sciences is transitioning rapidly as both the life science sector and recruitment firms look to stay abreast and resource their respective businesses to align with the changing environment,” said Ms. Macdonald.

“As the world we live in changes exponentially, so do the needs, wants and demands of patients, payers, and healthcare providers across the globe, be that from technical, social, economic or political perspectives,” she said. “At Macdonald Lewis, we are delighted to fuse our life sciences heritage with the expertise and experience of our cross industry specialist advisors to support our clients’ recruitment needs and ambitions.”

The team at Macdonald Lewis has demonstrable experience supporting client recruitment needs that span startups to Fortune 500 companies, including biotech, consulting, contract research, diagnostics, ethical pharma, generics, medical devices / med tech, nutrition and veterinarian concerns.

Joining Ms. Macdonald is Beatriz de Luis as an associate director. Ms. de Luis has worked closely with global pharmaceutical companies and has recruited talent for innovative biotechnology companies undergoing key expansion phases. She also gained executive search experience with RSA.

Craig Le Grice joins to serve as a special advisor to the firm. Mr. Le Grice is a corporate strategist specializing in digital, technology, marketing, and transformational change. With a career spanning more than 14 years, his sector experience includes working with global consumer pharmaceutical groups, consulting within technology environments (research and product marketing), advising clients on communications strategy, and supporting leadership of companies in the emerging health tech sector – particularly in the U.S. and U.K.

Graham Waters, CEO of Clasado Biosciences and a firm client, said: “With a strong focus on long-term relationships, Susan blends her life sciences and executive search knowledge, experience and international networks in a way that recognizes client’s needs and delivers truly tailored recruitment solutions. I trust Susan to represent my company, our culture and our ambitions to potential employees so we secure best-in-class talent.”

The global healthcare and life sciences sector is in the midst of a turbulent transformation, making the need for visionary leaders more important than ever.

According to life sciences sector specialist Bianca Coulter, finding leaders for organizations throughout the field impacts the industry’s ability to deliver advances in diagnosis, prevention, treatment and management of disease.

“Specialization as a search firm in this sector involves keeping very close to a host of scientific, technology and market trends, and requires deep understanding and access to leaders across the whole of the sector’s value chain,” she said.
