JDG Associates Leading CEO Search for Inter-American Foundation

December 20, 2016 – Executive search firm JDG Associates has been retained by the Inter-American Foundation (IAF) to lead its search for a new president and chief executive officer. Darren DeGioia, president of JDG Associates, is leading the assignment.

The top post, reporting to the board of directors, is responsible for executing on all IAF functions and activities to advance its mission, subject to the broad policy guidelines established by the board, the legislation creating the Foundation, and other applicable U.S. laws and regulations.

The incoming leader will represent the IAF to internal and external stakeholders while driving the organization’s vision, strategic direction, and successful achievement of its mission, including ultimate responsibility for program results, operations, legal compliance, and IAF’s profile and reputation within the broader international development community and the U.S. Government.

The new leader will be responsible for maintaining and strengthening positive working relationships with key senior officials in Congress and the Executive Branch, international development organizations, thought leaders in international development, and current and potential funding organizations, including private foundations, corporations, and bilateral and multilateral institutions.

Inspire, Motivate, and Unify

The organization is looking a leader with a successful track record directing an international organization or U.S. government agency or a core function within a larger organization, with ultimate responsibility for enterprise results.

Knowledge and experience in foreign assistance or international development, especially with respect to emerging trends and grassroots issues is desired as well as an understanding of U.S. Government foreign assistance priorities, programs, and funding mechanisms, including the appropriations process within the U. S. Congress.

The winning candidate will likely be a collaborative leader, able to draw on the knowledge and experience of a diverse multi-cultural and multilingual team located in Washington, D.C. and in 15 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The ability to inspire, motivate and unify employees and external stakeholders around a common vision for the future of the IAF.

The Inter-American Foundation is an independent Federal agency, established as part of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1969. Created as an alternative to traditional development models, the IAF promotes and invests in sustainable grassroots development throughout Latin America and the Caribbean to help communities thrive. To that end, the IAF provides grants and other support directly to grassroots and community-based organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean to help them implement their own creative ideas for development and poverty reduction.

Mr. DeGioia has spent 16 years conducting senior level search assignments for research and consulting organizations as well as the public sector at the federal, state, and local levels.
