Catalyst Advisors Recruits CEO for The Learning Clinic

September 15, 2015 – Executive search firm Catalyst Advisors has recruited Kal Vaikla as chief executive officer of U.K.-based The Learning Clinic. Partner Simon Bartholomew led the search.

Mr. Vaikla was previously managing director of healthcare information technology company Oasis Medical Solutions, which he successfully positioned for acquisition by Allscripts. Before that, he was vice president, sales and marketing for the International Operations Group of McKesson Healthcare Information Solutions, where he was responsible for generating annual revenue of £140 million. Prior to that, he was regional VP, Middle East and North Africa and managing director of Philips Respironics U.K. Earlier, Mr. Vaikla held positions at GE Medical Systems.

“The board is very pleased to have attracted a leader of Kal’s caliber and background to take the company forward,” said Stephen Murphy, chairman of The Learning Clinic.

“This search was particularly challenging,” said Mr. Bartholomew. “The founding CEO had left suddenly and the company was essentially leaderless.” Mr. Bartholomew said a short list of five candidates, coming from two continents, was assembled in record time. Three of the five, however, dropped out of the running or accepted other offers. As Mr. Bartholomew worked to fill these vacancies, new candidates were identified, including Mr. Vaikla.

The Learning Clinic’s products enable clinicians to capture, assess and act on clinical data at the patient, ward and hospital level. The system is in use in 50 hospitals across England and recently celebrated capturing 100 million patient observations over the past 10 years. The company employs 65 clinicians, technologists and other experts in London and Exeter.

With offices in New York, London and Los Angeles, Catalyst Advisors is an executive search firm devoted to finding boardroom and corporate C-suite leaders.
