Carnegie Mellon Names Chris Basar AVP for Budget and Financial Planning

BOSTON, MA, December 12, 2016 — Chris Basar has joined Carnegie Mellon University as Associate Vice President for Budget and Financial Planning, effective December 12, 2016.

A seasoned financial executive, Basar is responsible for the strategic oversight of the university’s annual operating and capital budget and for the creation of financial planning policies, procedures, and strategies. He will play a key role in developing a comprehensive budget process and working with campus leaders to provide recommendations on resource planning goals and objectives.

Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon, Basar served as Vice President for Global Complex Products (GCP) Operations Finance at Mylan, Inc., a global generics and specialty pharmaceutical company. In this role, Basar was responsible for driving financial results and efficiencies involving three manufacturing sites more than eight contract manufacturers.

Prior to Mylan, Basar held a variety of finance leadership positions at H.J. Heinz Company, among them Vice President Finance (U.S. Food Service), Vice President Global Planning and Analysis, and Director, Corporate Finance/Treasury.

A CPA, Basar received a bachelor of science in accounting from Bloomsburg University and earned his MBA from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.
